Good Evening
I am leaving for Louisiana this week from Ontario, Canada mainly for pleasure of it but also to visit a distant cousin in New Orleans. My family name is Muggah , the first of which, John Muggach (later Muggah) arrived in Nova Scotia around 1775. I and quite a few Cape Breton/Canadian Muggahs are descended from his line.
Several years later , perhaps 1807 or so , a nephew or brother of John arrived in New Orleans from Banffshire Parish, Scotland. It is from he that I believe your Muggah connections originate.
The Canadian and American branches have had little communication since then and in fact I have only one letter between them from the mid 1820s.
If you are interested I would be happy to meet with interested parties when we are in La. over the next few weeks beginning April 8th.

It would of been nice to had met you, unfortunately I am not in Louisiana. I have in the past corresponded with Robert Muggah’s father of Nova Scotia, I can’t recall his name at this moment.

Hello Henry, did you visit Bethany Bultman on your New Orleans visit ?….If so we are all cousins. Bethany’s brother tested with the same DNA testing company and it validated that I share the Muggah lineage. Her brother introduced me to Bethany via email. Well I went on your response to give you an update when I noticed you had mention that you visited a distant cousin in New Orleans.

Stephani, I’ve researched for a friend who has a collateral Muggah line via her Humphreys. I believe this was in Saint James Parish. I’ll dig through my notes and get back.

Looking at my tree I do have a Mary Humphrey married to a John Muggah in New Orleans. I assumed that John might be a son of my 2nd great-grandmother, since there wasn’t many mulatto Muggahs. I would appreciate if any of the descendants of John Muggah do their DNA testing, hopefully with 23andme DNA, but if not than Ancestry DNA or Family tree and then download their results to gedmatch.com

That’s the family. My friend is descended from Mary’s brother James B. Humphrey. I don’t think her family knows any present-day Muggah descendants.

Good Afternoon Stephani
Almost back from our wanderings in the south. Interesting and still a bit puzzling to me that your John was born in Elgin in 1760 and my John, in Scotland…place uncertain maybe Fochabers or maybe near Dufftown, Morayshire in 1757. Died 1816 Sydney, Nova Scotia and married Ann Meloney of Staten Island, her father John being a Tory refugee from your 13 colonies revolution of 1778.
Do you happen to know when your John arrived in Louisiana?

Good evening Henry, John married Helen Milne on 1778. He died 1829 in Louisiana. I have one son James born abt 1785 in Facteabers in Barissehore, Scotland and another son Edward born 1787 in Louisiana.

Greetings Stephani,
I was wondering what guidance you could offer around researching the Flamer line in Eastern Shore. My mother’s maiden name was Flamer and they all resided in Pennsylvania. My Great Grandfather, Howard Flamer, was born in Queen Anne around 1882 according to his death certificate. His parents names were George and Martha again according to the death cert. With Paul Heinegg’s discoveries I make the assumption that these descendents were all free blacks, but I cannot seem to locate George, Martha or Howard in any census prior to 1910. I have considered going to the Maryland State Archives, but as a novice, that seems very daunting right now. I’m not sure I’d have any idea where to start. Any guidance you could offer? It would be a thrill to be able to tie our lineages back to Heinegg’s research in Free African Americans. I hope to hear back from you, any guidance you can offer is not only appreciated, but encouraged as well.

I do have another blog https://myeasternshoreroots.wordpress.com/ It refers to the Flamers. I do have Howard in my tree and it does stop with George. I have not made the connection to my lineage yet. But I believe that the Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania’s Flamers are related. I have a Facebook group called Eastern Shore of Delaware, Virginia and Maryland. We are Eastern shore researchers of multicultural ancestors. Of course some of them have migrated to Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well. There are several Flamer researchers and several members who research at the archives weekly. We would love to help you in anyway that we can.

I am so sorry it took me so long to reply! It appears this got buried in my inbox! I only found it as a result of doing a Flamer search of my e-mail. And I see it was so prompt originally! Thank you for that courtesy. I just sent a request to join the Facebook group and I am planning a trip to the Maryland Archives in the month of June. It could be as soon as this coming weekend. I look forward to joining the group and learning from those more experienced than myself as I start this journey. Hello. My name is Pamela Wilson. I’m from South Louisiana and continue to reside here today. My late father’s name was Thomas Henry Muggah. His mother was Mamie Muggah. I do not know if she was born in Louisiana or Illinois, but she was living in Chicago when she conceived my father in 1943. My father didn’t know much about his mother, as she was mentally unfit to care for him and his other siblings. He and his sister Georgia were adopted by his aunt and moved to New Orleans. After the adoption his name became Thomas Henry Foster. My maiden name is Pamela Foster. I am his only child, although I have 3 children of my own now with my husband.
I have taken ancestry.com’s DNA test and do not mind posting the results, although I’m not sure of the appropriate way of doing that or where to do so. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It has been more than 10 years since we “spoke”. I am back in the genealogical frame of mind and if you are still active on this blog let me know and we can resume our chat. I do have a chromosome report and quite a bit more about Muggahs in the North and in Scotland.
I am now into my eighties and fully retired with four children and eight g’children all rather scattered at this point.
